Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Uploads to LMA - Why Strip Art?

I am one of the creators of the GEMS seeds of torrents.

We go to great effort to ensure quality and provide the next generation of information along with our seeds. This includes Meta Data Tagging of the FLAC Files, addition of Art for CD Covers and the inclusion of "Album Art" for use in media players - in essence a holistic listening experience of music, art and information vs. what track am I listening too ... oh it's d1t04

It has been brought to my attention that when these GEMS torrents are uploaded to the LMA that the art files are stripped out of the torrent folder and MD5's are re-created for the purpose of being able to verify the bastardized torrent folder files.

Why?

We go to extra-ordinary lengths to create HQ Torrents.

The QC process that I go through follows this path:

GEMS QC process.

1) Edited Shows Are Tracked and Flac'd. An FFP is created. (FFP's provide ability verify the music only files)

2) The FFP is added to the Text File and presented to db.etree to obtaining a shnid.

3) The shnid is added to FLAC meta-tags and artwork is created (which includes the listing of the shnid). The created art includes i)CD covers; and, ii) "album art" for use in meta tags and viewing in media players like winamp, foobar, etc. Following the completion of art creation and meta-data tagging; a ST5 is created. (ST5 provides ability to verify music and metadata)

4) All the finalized files are added to the torrent folder and include: Meta-Data Tagged FLAC Files, shntool.txt, FFP, ST5, M3u playlist, show info text file, art jpegs for CD covers, art jpeg file for media player album art. An MD5 is created to verify all files. And the MD5 is placed in the finalized torrent folder.

Now exists a complete and holistic listening experience for the downloader.

And the torrent folder has been created with adherence to the LMA / eTree / "community standards, ensuring that the torrent created stays the same otherwise MD5 will not verify.

We go to extra-ordinary effort to create and seed these torrents. And prior to seeding I verify the included FFP, ST5 and MD5.

If what we provide exceeds the "standard", why are art files being deleted and MD5's being re-created to provide the false illusion that the torrent verifies with the intent of the creator?

seems like your having a issue with the md5 too? I think it needs to be modified here to work. You have error one which is leaving the time stamp in, that causes it to FAIL when it checks that it verifies. To remove that go to TLH-right click on the toolbar>preferences>creating md5> uncheck timestamp box. Also new md5 is created when uploading of the flac files not everything so......all the other things in the original md5 vs new there will launch FAIL. I for one agree the art should go up here but modifying a md5 that won't work here is to be expected and done without the call of bastardizing. Maybe you should upload the stuff yourself prior to seeding? give it a shot?? I think maybe a thanks should be inline to the people that upload music here. I am grateful. thanks for getting the music out there

that is interesting blueD, and not really sure why the inclusion of the artwork along with the original fileset is a problem, especially since there are lossless archived shows here at LMA which include the artwork, for instance:

http://www.archive.org/details/ffw2005-04-24.flac16

yes, it's a non-GD show, but i'm pretty sure i've come across GD uploads which had artwork included, possibly i am misremembering however

Exactly Arbutnot.

-----------------------------------

I understand what LMA is and it's not a torrent site. I don't have to create .pdf files. I did this correctly.

My gripe is that as people are uploading recordings I have seeded at LossLess Legs or eTree, they are bastardizing my files. The are deleting artwork and creating new MD5's.

WHY?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Specific Examples Include the following for shows arechived at LMA. I can provide an additional dozen examples.

First off, thanks for the work you do to keep the music alive and well.

Unfortunately I don't think you will get the answers to your questions here. This forum is rarely monitored by moderators/contributors who might have real answers to your questions as opposed to speculation (no offense to my fellow forumites). I would probably post this at the LMA forum as well as that forum has moderators who actively participate and may provide you with the answers you seek.

Good luck.

Well first, LMA isn't a torrent site, so their downloads aren't the same. LMA is an archival site, so the downloads, in flac, are file related, click to DL. Once the file is uploaded and stored, there may not be a further need for MD5. Or, they're not making it an issue for the downloader. What you get is what you get.

With regard to artwork and setlists, I don't believe LMA requires MD5, so you may want to attempt uploading as PDF for the art and txt for setlists.

If it's Etree that's griping you, it's a whole different animal, and does relate to your "torrent" issues.

BTW, copy and paste some of the stuff you've uploaded.

Thanks.
